Provisional Patents
A provisional patent is the preliminary step to filing for a regular patent that gives one additional year of protection – enough time to further develop your invention before investing in the cost of a regular patent application. It allows filing without a formal patent claim, oath or declaration, or any information disclosure statement. It also allows the term "patent pending" to be applied.
