John Schneider manages the marketing activities and faculty outreach for life sciences technologies at AzTE. To that he brings over a decade of project management experience in commercial aerospace and defense, in addition to more recent experience in law and bioengineering. In aerospace he managed projects such as stealth technology for the F-22 fighter and delivery certification activities for the 737 and 757 and avionics upgrades across the Boeing product line. The diagnostic device technology coming out of his PhD research has been licensed to a startup company (to which he is a consultant) interested in bringing low-cost medical testing to Latin America. He first began doing IP and technology valuation in 2005, while still a student at Arizona State University.
He was concurrently a doctoral student in the Fulton School of Engineering and a student in the Sandra Day O’Conner College of Law at ASU. There he earned a PhD in bioengineering and a MLS in law, concentrating in IP and international law. His dissertation involved the study of superhydrophobic surfaces and lens-free focusing optics. He was a National Science Foundation Fellow while at ASU, studying the biochemistry of photosynthesis and contributing focused research in algal biofuels. In addition, he studied public policy and how to direct technological innovation to best serve the public good; to this he studied science policy at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, and researched science education policy for the Consortium For Science, Policy & Outcomes (CSPO) at ASU. Prior education included medical device commercialization at the University of Washington, a MS in aerospace engineering from Penn State (researching general aviation drag reduction devices), and a BS in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton.
He is the author of over a dozen papers in the fields of bioengineering, aerospace engineering, biochemistry, and law; has been an invited speaker; and has several patent applications in review.
