Arizona Technology Enterprises (AzTE) is the exclusive intellectual property management and technology transfer organization for Arizona State University. AzTE works with faculty, investors and industry partners to speed the flow of innovation from the research laboratory to the marketplace.
In fiscal year 2012, ASU faculty members were issued 54 patents (26 in the U.S.), launched nine startups and submitted 239 invention disclosures, which will provide the technology inventory for the next generation of new deals or start-ups.
For fiscal years 2011 through 2013, AzTE ranked or is projected to rank among the top ten among all institutions with more than $300M in research in inputs (invention disclosures) and outputs (licensing agreements and startups) per $10M in research expenditures, according to annual surveys by the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).
Overall, ASU discoveries have led to the formation of 66 companies. Start-ups that have licensed ASU IP have attracted more than $360 million in funding from venture capital firms and other investors. In FY 2012, these companies closed on over $55 million in venture capital and other financing.
